Fallback Engineering (“Fallback Engineering,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates fallbackengineering.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, and the choices available to you.

Information we collect

We may collect information that you provide directly, including your name, email address, username, amateur-radio call sign, account details, comments, messages, support requests, newsletter preferences, and information submitted when purchasing or subscribing to products or services.

When you use the site, our systems and service providers may automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed, approximate location derived from your IP address, timestamps, cookie identifiers, and security or diagnostic logs.

Payments

If you make a purchase or begin a paid subscription, payment information is processed by a third-party payment provider. Fallback Engineering does not store complete payment-card numbers or card security codes. The payment provider may collect billing, transaction, fraud-prevention, and device information under its own privacy policy.

How we use information

  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the website.
  • Create and manage user accounts, memberships, and subscriptions.
  • Deliver articles, downloads, newsletters, notices, and purchased products or services.
  • Respond to questions, comments, support requests, and other communications.
  • Process transactions and maintain business, tax, and accounting records.
  • Detect spam, abuse, fraud, security incidents, and technical problems.
  • Understand general site usage and improve content and performance.
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce site policies.

Comments and public information

If comments or other public submissions are enabled, the information you post may be visible to anyone. This can include your display name, call sign, profile image, website link, and the content of your submission. Do not post information that you want to keep private.

When visitors leave comments, we may collect the information shown in the comment form along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user-agent string to assist with moderation and spam detection. An anonymized value derived from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to determine whether you use that service. After a comment is approved, a Gravatar profile image may be publicly visible with the comment.

Cookies and similar technologies

The site may use cookies and similar technologies for essential site operation, login sessions, preferences, security, spam prevention, analytics, and performance. If you leave a comment, you may be offered the option to save your name, email address, or website in cookies for convenience.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking some cookies may prevent parts of the site from working correctly.

Embedded content and third-party services

Pages and articles may include embedded content or links from other websites, such as videos, maps, social posts, payment tools, or externally hosted media. Those services may collect information, use cookies, and monitor your interaction as though you visited their website directly. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies.

How we share information

We may share information with vendors that help us operate the site and business, including hosting, email delivery, payment processing, analytics, security, backup, spam detection, and customer-support providers. These providers receive only the information reasonably necessary to perform their services.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect users or the public, investigate fraud or abuse, defend legal claims, or protect the rights, property, and security of Fallback Engineering.

If the website or business is reorganized, transferred, sold, or merged, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to applicable law.

Fallback Engineering does not sell personal information for money and does not currently share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

How long we retain information

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the site and services, maintain accounts and transaction records, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and protect the site. Comments and their associated metadata may be retained indefinitely unless removal is requested or required.

Data security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards intended to protect information. No website, network, storage system, or method of transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your choices and privacy rights

You may unsubscribe from nonessential email messages by using the unsubscribe link in those messages. You may also request access to, correction of, export of, or deletion of personal information associated with you. Some information may be retained when required for legal, accounting, security, or legitimate operational reasons.

Privacy rights vary by location. We will review requests and respond as required by applicable law. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request.

Children’s privacy

Fallback Engineering is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the site, contact us so we can investigate and remove it when appropriate.

International visitors

Fallback Engineering is operated from the United States. If you access the site from another country, your information may be processed and stored in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.

We may update this Privacy Policy as the website, services, or legal requirements change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated through the website or by email when appropriate.
